Life Skills & Parenting Training

Life Skills training at Siblings Together USA, Inc. is a community effort.  Our youth live in the community and utilize all of the community resources that are available to them within the 10-Block Radius and the surrounding areas.  Life skills are taught in the home as well as the community.  Siblings Together USA, Inc. staff work with each individual, in addition to the group, to assist them in mastering the developmental tasks of the phase they are currently in.  As each individual youth demonstrates mastery of the specified task, they are allowed to move onto to the next phase of their development.  Those individuals requiring additional support, are retained in their existing phase and provided more intensive training until mastery is demonstrated.

Life Skills

All Siblings Together USA, Inc. programs offer life skills training and leadership development, but for our teen parents, we also offer instruction and support in regards to effective parenting techniques, child development, stress management, and health & nutrition.  Too many black youth fall victim to the same parenting challenges, as did their parents, often resulting in the breakdown of parenting skills, and eventual removal of their children.

Parenting Training

Siblings Together USA, Inc. realizes that sometimes our teen parents need supports outside of the agency and thus Siblings Together USA, Inc. looks to the community for mentors and volunteers who can provide meaning experiences for our teen parents while building lasting relationships that will provide support and guidance with their challenge of becoming effective parents, long after they have left the foster care system.  In turn, there are many members in the community who want to be involved in the development of the teen parent’s development, instead of sitting back and watching them become vulnerable and disenfranchised members of the community.
